Meditation has been repeatedly proven to reduce stress levels, reduce blood pressure, increase circulation, strengthen your immune system, relieve chronic pain, improve sleep, reduce anxiety, improve memory and decision making, and maybe even slow aging! And there is absolutely NO downside!
For anyone who is interested in dipping a toe into the world of meditation, I have found the easiest introduction: Deepak Chopra’s FREE 21 Day Meditation Challenge “Creating Abundance” (starts November 5th). Whether you are a seasoned meditator or a newbie, this is a really great series of guided meditations. What “guided meditation” means is that instead of sitting quietly for 10-30 minutes, you will instead be listening to a trained meditation teacher, with a beautiful voice, guiding you in your meditation.
Many people are afraid that they won’t be able to sit still or quiet their minds during a meditation. This is an excellent way to start because it gently teaches you to focus and trains you to sit quietly for tiny amounts of time, building to longer times in silence.
Meditation is called a PRACTICE because it really requires years and years of practice. On the other hand, you can reap the benefits after only one meditation. Each time is different, some where your monkey mind (jumping from topic to topic, thought to thought) won’t stop, and others where you peacefully slide into another (profound) state of mind.
The most important tip I have for new meditators is to be gentle with yourselves. It sort of defeats the goal of reducing stress, blood pressure, and anxiety if you beat yourself up for having monkey mind or for falling asleep or for having restless legs. These are all perfectly normal and part of the practice. Just notice what happens during your meditation, take a moment to breathe, and move on.
UPDATE: This FREE meditation challenge starts on November 5th and you can signup here! Starting on 11/5, you will receive an email each day with a link to a meditation. This is completely on your own and no one knows whether you skip one, do it on a different day or don’t do it at all. No one online can hear you or see you. I do think that you only have access to it for a few days after the 21 days end though.
I encourage you to try it. See what happens in your life!
